A small lamp with a proper fabric shade and no cord at all. The shade is natural oatmeal linen with the slubs left visible, so the light comes through warm and slightly uneven rather than flat - the thing that usually separates a real table lamp from a battery one. Underneath it, a slim tapered metal column on a low round base, and a single button on the front edge of that base is the only control.

Press it briefly and the light colour steps between warm, natural and cool white. Hold it and the brightness runs smoothly from five per cent to full, with no fixed steps, so you can set it low enough to read beside someone sleeping. It stands 10.6 inches tall with a 4.7 inch shade, small enough for a nightstand and right for the middle of a dining table or the end of a bar counter.

The battery is lithium and charges over the included USB cable. Three base finishes: brushed brass, brushed silver and a warm copper rose gold - the shade is the same oatmeal linen on all three. There is no plug and no wall socket involved, so the lamp goes wherever you want it, including outdoors on a covered terrace in dry weather. Rated 5V. Two-year warranty.
