The surface is the reason this pendant exists. The shade is cast resin with a rough, uneven finish, so it reads as plaster or stone rather than moulded plastic, and it catches light unevenly rather than reflecting it flatly. Wabi-sabi is the idea that an imperfect surface is more interesting than a perfect one, and that is the design brief here. LED light is included and a touch switch sits on the fixture, so it works over a dining table or kitchen island with no wall switch nearby.

Two shapes are made: a smooth dome, and a wavy version with an irregular, hand-shaped edge. Each comes in white or grey, in four diameters: 12 inch (30 cm), 16 inch (40 cm), 20 inch (50 cm) and 24 inch (60 cm). Size should follow the room, not preference. Twelve inches suits a bedside, a hallway, or a row of three along a kitchen island. Sixteen inches works over a table for four. The 20 and 24 inch sizes are for a large dining table or a living room. White brightens a dark ceiling; grey holds the texture better in a bright room. It hangs as a cord pendant with a 59 in (150 cm) drop, shortened during installation to fit standard or high ceilings.
