A slim black aluminium body, an integrated LED, and no visible fixings once it is on the wall. This is the kind of outdoor light that does its work without asking to be looked at: a narrow beam washed down the wall beside a door, or up and down it, depending on which of the five shapes you pick. There is no bulb to buy and nothing to unscrew in the rain.

Also known as an outdoor sconce, exterior wall light, porch light, garden light, patio light, step light or facade light, it suits a front door, back door, porch, patio, balcony, terrace, garden wall, garage, carport, side passage, stairwell or covered walkway. Mounted in a run along a path or a fence line, the narrow beams read as a deliberate sequence rather than as scattered lamps.

Five styles are made, all in the same black finish so they can be mixed on one building. The short rounded cylinder and the short faceted wedge are 3W. The tall rounded cylinder, the compact cube and the tall faceted wedge are 6W, and the tall faceted one throws light both up and down the wall. Sizes run from 60 x 80 mm for the short cylinder to 60 x 145 mm for the tall faceted version. Both suit a modern, minimalist, scandinavian, contemporary, industrial or new-build exterior.

The body is cast aluminium rather than painted steel, and outdoors that matters: aluminium does not rust where the finish gets chipped, and it sheds heat well enough that the LED holds its colour instead of drifting blue. It carries an IP54 rating, which means a wall with some shelter over it rather than a fully exposed face. Universal 85-265V input runs on standard US supply, and mounting is a simple wall fixing with the wiring concealed behind the backplate. The connection should be made by a qualified electrician.
